Dealing With Trauma After Being Scammed

Dealing With Trauma After Being Scammed

The unfortunate truth about the world is that there are always people out there who are willing to take thousands off those who are vulnerable rather than getting a job and working for it themselves. These types of people have no remorse and are more than happy to walk away and even try and come back for more.

Nonetheless, scams can come in so many different forms, and you may have been impacted by one on a much greater scale, such as Friday afternoon scams, which refer to those that occur on a Friday afternoon so scammers have a full weekend to move the money before people who can help are back in the office on Monday. These scams typically target those who have been saving for a house or are transferring large sums of money.

Have I Been Scammed?

You know you have been scammed where you’ve been left high and dry, whether you’ve bought a product and not received it or invested your money due to a guaranteed outcome. There are so many ways you can be scammed online, which is both unfortunate and very common.

While in some cases people are lucky enough to get their money back, if not most of it, unfortunately in some cases, there is nothing local authorities or banks can do, so you are left with these feelings and having nowhere to put them.

How To Deal With Scam Trauma

Grieve

Being scammed isn’t something that you can shrug your shoulders and be done with. Some scams take large amounts of a person’s hard-earned money so it is something that is going to take time to move forward with but that is completely fine up to a certain point.

While yes, it’s material things that we shouldn’t care about at the same time we live in a society where it really does, and in most cases, scammers are taking from those that actually need the money, which validates these feelings of utter outrage even more.

Forgive Yourself

As mentioned, a lot of feelings of shame, guilt and self-loathing are very common after becoming a victim of a scam, but you can’t beat yourself up about it. Scammers have gotten more critical and clever with their methods; just so you don’t spot it, it’s not your fault that you fell for it because if it wasn’t you, it would have been someone else.

Don’t Forget

It’s easy to suppress what has happened to you and avoid those embarrassing feelings, but as the old saying goes, time heals and eventually you will be able to shrug it off because unfortunately, stuff like that does happen all of the time.

While you might want to forget it’s important that you don’t and take this as a lesson. Be sure to use the tools provided for better security but also to keep in the loop of any evolving scams.

Final Thoughts

If you have been duped by a romance or crypto scam, you could feel let down, irate, and dissatisfied all around. While all of these emotions are normal and natural, it’s still important to take the required safety measures and heal from your trauma.
