A Beginners Guide For Their First Hiking Trip

Hiking is a great way to exercise because not only is it physically challenging but, it also gets you outside, embracing the wonders of the world. However, packing for the hiking trip isn’t easy, especially if it is your first time. You don’t know what the weather will be like and if it is a challenging hike. Nonetheless, some essentials will always need to be packed, no matter the weather.

Hiking is one of my favourite forms of exercise. Simply because you can embrace the natural beauties of the world whilst walking. Furthermore, it is one of the most creative ways of exercising and you can absorb vitamin D on your way. It is a great exercise for reducing stress and escaping the hustle and bustle of city life.

Packing for a hiking trip is simple once you know what to bring. Luckily for you, we have gathered a list of some of the items that you must bring on your journey.

Water Bottle

Although this should be the first thing on your mind before you set off, we thought we’d mention it first. A water bottle is essential because this hiking trip could go on for hours. Furthermore, you will sweat a lot, causing you to be dehydrated along the way. Not to mention you will need a drink on the way up and back down. We advise you to get a 2L bottle for your walk; however, if your bag is not big enough, get two one-litre bottles. Nevertheless, you should have a big bag enough to carry a 2-litre water bottle.

Hiking Boots

Hiking boots/ shoes are very important for your trip. If you don’t bring these, you could injure yourself due to rolling your ankle. Remember, your hiking trip is not going to be a flat surface so, you need all the support you can get. Furthermore, ensure that your shoes are waterproof in case it is wet or it rains during your hike.

Wear Plenty Of Comfortable Layers

A common mistake beginner hikers make is not wearing enough layers. It is essential to wear an underlayer, t-shirt, jumper and jacket. Again, this is dependent on the time of year. If your hiking trip is planned in the colder months, you can guarantee you will need extra layers.

For the summer months, you will need fewer layers. You should be ok to wear hiking boots, shorts, or tracksuit bottoms, a T-shirt and then a fleece jacket. If it is raining, bring a raincoat as well as waterproof bottoms to keep you dry. If you wear a watch, wear an appropriate watch band so it doesn’t dig into you.

Summary

Hiking is one of the best ways to exercise and you won’t truly enjoy it until you do it. It is a fantastic way to enjoy the greenery around you whilst also exercising. Just remember to pack these essentials so you are prepared for however your journey plans out. Good luck!
