The Toyota Prius and EventCamp Twin Cities

By Christopher Uschan

What do the Toyota Prius and EventCamp Twin Cities (ECTC) have in common?

They’re both successful, pioneering Hybrids!

Toyota’s Prius hybrid car powered by gas and electricity went world wide in 2001. Nine years later, hybrid cars are everywhere. Just last week, Sam Smith and Ray Hansen created their own ultimate hybrid experience by connecting 75 face-to-face attendees in Minneapolis with 20 participants from organized Switzerland and Dallas pods and nearly 200 remote viewers. Will it become the way people meet in the future? Time will tell.

When ECTC went live on 9/9, viewers from around the globe connected to the live event via Twitter and an online interface streaming an almost interactive TV show-like experience to participate with the on-site attendees. The event dedicated an on-site Emcee (Emilie Barta) to be the voice of remote audience. Combining various technologies with a program that offered frequent interaction, EventCamp Twin Cities just drove hybrid meetings to the next level.

Slides, session summaries and recordings, including interviews from EventCamp Twin Cities will be rolled out through Engage365 over the next few weeks. If you can’t wait (and have all day), buckle up and replay the event. And while you’re at it, connect with ECTC attendees by joining the ECTC event community.

Social, Innovation and Collaboration

By Christopher Uschan

What comes to your mind when you think about the words – social, innovation and collaboration?

If you’re anything like me, you probably have many different ideas buzzing around in your head, on your blog and Twitter stream.

We’ve been listening to industry thought leaders via webinars, reading blog posts, participating in Engage365 water cooler chats and conversations for quite awhile now. We think it is about time that we get together face-to-face to talk about how to bring more social media principles (think: two-way communication) into events.

Where? At EventCamp Twin Cities in Minneapolis on September 8-9, 2010?

One thing that we really like about EventCamp is that it is an innovation laboratory. The Event Camp Twin Cities team has pulled together several new collaboration experiences, the latest in event technology and some of our own Engage365 members to spark discussions.

To be honest, this is an ambitious topic that we don’t expect to be resolved in one day. Yet, it’s a discussion we think is important. Join me and other Engage365 members at EventCamp Twin Cities. Tune into Event Camp Twin Cities on Twitter #ECTC10 or follow the ECTC Blog.
