What Did You Learn Today?

by Tony Veroeven

What did you learn today?Everyday my 3 1/2 year old son asks me, “so, Daddy, how’s your day?”. “Today was incredible”, I say! “What did you learn today?” he prods. Well, did I ever learn about Social Media applied to Events!

Wednesday (Nov. 4th)  I learned that with Twitter, you can get by with a little help from your friends–(thanks J,P,G,R).Wednesday’s Social Media for Events Webinar with Jessica Levin (from Seven Degrees Communications) had 30% of its attendance come solely from Twitter posts, retweets & viral posts.

If you can do that with one webinar and one or two social technology, what kind of awareness can you bring if you coordinate efforts, around a conference?

The webinar (now posted in the Engage365 Community) went very well and we fielded many questions. Jessica Levin and I also learned that we should take some of our own medicin..”Know your audience”. One thing we didn’t make clear was that the webinar was not a “How to Twitter”, or “Facebook 101″. It was meant for people who have gotten past that but are looking to apply it to an event. We got some great comments, compliments, and critiques that will help us improve our next webinar.

I’ll always be very open and honest with you in this blog. I’ll let you know our successes, failures, and what needs a bit of work. The point of the Engage365 Community is learning from others.
